Russia Prepares to Cut Off Its Citizens from Discord – "Cheburnet" Is No Longer a Fantasy

Roskomnadzor has added several Discord pages to its register of banned sites and sent a threatening letter to Discord: either block these servers, or we will block you entirely.

Currently, the Russian authorities are primarily interested in servers related to the war and resistance against the government, and they are not hesitating to enforce restrictions to protect their interests. This action creates significant obstacles for regular users in Russia, who are now forced to find alternative ways to bypass restrictions to access the messenger.

Bypassing Discord restrictions will be costly since VOIP ("voice over IP") requires stable ping and high-speed connectivity. For the past few days, Russia has been experiencing serious difficulties with the functionality of Discord, a service that has been popular among gamers and various online communities. Now, access to the platform is only possible through VPNs, while in the rest of the world, there are no issues, and it continues to operate smoothly.

The ‘Cheburnet’ is becoming a closer reality, and people remain indifferent – 20 years of Putin's rule have conditioned them to accept it.
