Ban on Displaying Food Waste and Showcasing Wealth
There exists an actual law from the Communist Party that prohibits the display of food waste. This rule stems from the need to promote an export-oriented lifestyle where wastefulness is seen as unacceptable. Essentially, you can't show any form of waste, particularly when it comes to food that has been purchased.
To circumvent this regulation, content creators have started framing their wasteful videos by stating that the food was free or that they are allowed to waste food that doesn't come with a price tag. Previously, many influencers would visit upscale restaurants, order lavish meals for the camera, take only a few bites, and then leave the majority uneaten. This scenario is not uncommon; it's been observed firsthand at government meetings where an entire menu is presented, yet half of it remains untouched.
The government disapproves of these behaviors, not only because of food waste but also due to concerns about the display of wealth. There is a clear push to minimize the exhibition of affluence, as flaunting wealth is now frowned upon.
