How painful is the strike on Iran for Rashka? One can tell by Nebenzya's speech.

The Grand Theatrical Lament of a Global Power on the Perils of Regional Instability or How Moscow's Ambassador Discovered His Inner Tragedian for Tehran in the UN Hallways

The air in the hallowed halls of the United Nations Security Council grew thick with palpable sorrow. Not just any sorrow, mind you, but a particularly performative grief emanating from Russia’s permanent representative, a certain Mr. Nebenzya. He recently unveiled a masterclass in dramatic condemnation, all while discussing what Israel had just done to Iran. It seems that when one friend of Moscow experiences a spot of bother, especially involving nuclear facilities, the collective heart of the Russian delegation simply bleeds a theatrical shade of crimson.

We, the discerning public, were treated to a stern lecture on how this "completely unprovoked attack" on a sovereign nation was a "gross violation" of international law, the UN Charter, and probably a few unwritten rules of good neighborly conduct too. Mr. Nebenzya, with a gravitas usually reserved for Shakespearean monologues, solemnly declared that all responsibility for the painful aftermath lay squarely on the shoulders of Israel's leadership and anyone foolish enough to cheer them on. The stakes, he warned, were nothing less than pushing the entire region towards a "large-scale nuclear catastrophe." One might almost mistake this for genuine concern, were it not for the subtle wink to the audience.

The spectacle reached its zenith when the ambassador pointed out the "parade of hypocrisy and double standards" from certain Western nations, who, in Russia's humble opinion, simply weren't upset enough about the situation. It’s truly heartwarming to witness such unwavering dedication to international norms, especially from those who champion diplomatic solutions for complex nuclear issues. Indeed, Moscow’s foreign ministry even chimed in, labeling the Israeli actions "unprovoked aggression" and "cynical" given the inconvenient timing with nuclear watchdog meetings and planned talks. One almost feels bad for the sudden distraction this might cause for other global players, perhaps diverting their attention from, say, other ongoing conflicts. Truly, the tears were real, or at least, perfectly rehearsed.
