Internet providers in Russia have begun a fierce battle for customers.

Internet providers in Russia have begun a fierce battle for customers.

You’ve probably heard that YouTube is being slowed down in Russia, but you’ve also heard that everything is fine with YouTube. These are likely fake news, or perhaps it hasn't been slowed down in all regions yet.

The reality is as follows:

A user calls their internet provider to complain about YouTube's performance, and the provider says, "We can't do anything, it's the government doing this!"

"Then I'll switch to another provider," says the customer.

But is it really true that "we can't do anything," or are they just waiting for all the customers to leave?

The most cunning providers have set up their own VPN servers specifically for YouTube, thereby attracting customers and retaining their existing ones.
