According to Russia’s UN rep Vasily Nebenzya, Russia is apparently a leading global champion in... cybersecurity. Yes, you read that right. At a recent UN Security Council meeting, Nebenzya painted Russia as the digital knight in shining armor, tirelessly advocating for the safety of critical infrastructure, like hospitals, from cyberattacks.

Some key moments of Nebenzya's grand address included:

1. Russia’s “Noble” ICT Security Initiatives: For over 25 years, Russia’s been setting the pace in global ICT security talks. According to Nebenzya, Moscow’s been spearheading discussions at the UN, rallying for special platforms like the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG). And to top it off, Russia even wants an Ad-Hoc Committee to draft an international cyber peace treaty. If that doesn’t sound sincere, what does?

2. Deny, Deny, Deny: Nebenzya dismissed all accusations of Russian cyberattacks as baseless political theater. Russia, he claims, is but a humble crusader against cybercrime, beset by malicious rumors from jealous rivals.

3. Guarding the Digital Gates of Hospitals: Nebenzya explained Russia’s desire to see ICT security agreements legally enshrined, so that no hospital is ever at risk of a cyberattack—especially not by Russia, heaven forbid.

4. A Call for Global Solidarity: Nebenzya’s speech included a heartfelt appeal for all nations to band together and participate in “binding” ICT security treaties, for the betterment of mankind (and possibly so no one asks too many questions).

5. Attribution Woes: Finally, Nebenzya threw his hands up over the “complexity” of attribution in cyberspace. Since cyberattacks are notoriously anonymous, he hinted that everyone should hold off on jumping to conclusions. After all, just because a server points to Moscow doesn’t mean... well, you get it.

In his closing notes, Nebenzya passionately urged everyone to focus on the "real" threats—like physical military strikes on hospitals. Because, in Russia's view, cyber threats are a bit too virtual to take seriously.
