In 2016, amidst the active phase of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, a Ukrainian hacktivist group called RUH8 executed a bold operation, obtaining access to the emails of Vladislav Surkov, a key advisor to then-Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Following a detailed analysis of the acquired data, the hacktivists published over 2,300 emails that they claimed showed evidence of funding for pro-Russian separatist factions in the Donbas, plans to destabilize Ukraine internally, and also exposed a network of propaganda outlets used to disseminate disinformation and manipulate the media.
You can find information about the RUH8 group's activities here: RUH8: Ukrainian Hacktivism and Cyber Warfare. Regrettably, this exposing initiative didn't receive adequate attention from the international community at the time. However, we want to express our appreciation today to these veteran hacktivists whose bravery and commitment serve as an inspiration to new generations in the fight for truth.
