Two Russian nationals, Kostiantyn Kalashnikov and Elena Afanasyeva, were charged in the U.S. with conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) and money laundering. They allegedly operated a covert $10 million scheme funded by the Russian government through RT, a state-controlled media outlet. This operation funneled money to a U.S.-based company, U.S. Company-1, which created social media content promoting pro-Russia propaganda without disclosing its ties to Russia. The FBI is investigating, and both Kalashnikov and Afanasyeva are at large.
