the recent damage to two undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, after a Chinese vessel, the Yi Peng Three, was linked to the incidents. The cables in question, which are crucial for connectivity between Sweden, Lithuania, Finland, Germany, were severed in Swedish territorial waters on November 17 and 18, 2024. The Yi Peng Three, which had been in the area around the time of the cable cuts, sailed from the Russian port of Ust-Luga on November 15, before docking in international waters off Denmark.

While Beijing has denied any involvement in the sabotage, it has expressed a willingness to collaborate with Sweden and other nations to investigate the events. Data from ship tracking sources show that the Chinese ship was near the affected cables when each was damaged.

Yi Peng Three turned off geolocation (Automatic Identification System) during the cable destruction - it’s so naive.
