The United States has decided to impose sanctions on the media group "Russia Today," RIA Novosti, RT, Sputnik, Ruptly, as well as against the editor-in-chief of RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan and several top managers of RT, according to the U.S. Treasury Department. Additionally, U.S. authorities have charged two RT employees with violating the Foreign Agents Act and money laundering.

In a written statement, the department noted that the new restrictions also affect Simonyan's deputies — Anton Anisimov and Elizaveta Brodskaya. Also on the "blacklist" are RT Deputy Head of Information Broadcasting Service Andrey Kiyashko, Head of Digital Media Projects Department Konstantin Kalashnikov, and employee of the same department Elena Afanasyeva. The media manager herself is called a "central figure in the Russian government's efforts to exert harmful influence."

Earlier, CNN reported that the administration of the current U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing to accuse the Russian side of allegedly preparing to interfere in the presidential elections. The U.S. Department of Justice was also preparing to announce measures to counter "interference."
