In an extraordinary achievement, a Ukrainian F-16 pilot made history by shooting down six cruise missiles in one combat mission, including two destroyed using the aircraft's cannon.
The event unfolded on December 13, 2024, during a massive Russian missile attack. Armed with only four air-to-air missiles—two medium-range and two short-range—the pilot demonstrated exceptional skill and strategy.
The mission began with the pilot launching two medium-range missiles at distant targets, successfully eliminating both. He then closed the gap to engage a second pair of cruise missiles at close range.
“I locked onto the second pair and noticed interference from Russian electronic warfare systems,” the pilot explained. “It didn’t do them much good. First shot—direct hit! Second shot—another success! Watching those impacts with my own eyes was unbelievably satisfying. With some fuel still in the tanks, the mission continued.”
This world record not only highlights the technical capabilities of the F-16 but also underscores the courage and expertise of Ukraine's fighter pilots, setting new benchmarks for modern aerial combat.
