Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland

Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland Trump was right — China wants to seize Greenland

Short version

Everyone laughed when Donald Trump talked about buying Greenland, but China has been secretly trying to take it over for more than a decade. By declaring themselves a Near-Arctic Nation, Beijing is using state-owned companies to buy mines and build airports dangerously close to US military bases. This isn't just about money; it is a calculated military strategy to control the Arctic and challenge American power in the north.

For years, people have treated the idea of buying Greenland like a bad joke. But while the internet was making memes, Beijing was making moves. The reality is terrifyingly simple: China wants Greenland, and they have been aggressively pursuing it since at least 2012. It’s not about ice and polar bears; it’s about dominance, resources, and putting a chokehold on the West.

The most laughable part of this entire scheme is how China justifies it. In 2018, the Chinese Communist Party released a document calling themselves a Near-Arctic Nation. Look at a map. China is nowhere near the Arctic. The northernmost part of China is below Russia. Claiming to be an Arctic power is like claiming you own the moon just because you can see it from your backyard. But this ridiculous label gave them the legal excuse they needed to start pushing their "Polar Silk Road" initiative. It sounds like a trade route, but it’s a cover for military expansion.

They started with mining. Back in 2012, so-called "private" companies like the General Nice Group started investing heavily in Greenland. But let’s be real—in China, there is no such thing as a truly private company when it comes to strategic resources. These are state-backed operations designed to exploit the island’s minerals. They don't care about the environment; they just want to dig up the ground and ship it home.

However, China's Greenland ambition goes way beyond just digging for rocks. The truly scary moment came in 2019 when Chinese companies bid to build the Kangerlussuaq Airport. Why does that matter? Because they wanted to build it right next to the US Space Force base, formerly known as Thule Air Base. This isn't a coincidence. You don't try to build a massive airport next to your rival's most important Arctic military site unless you plan to use it for spying or military staging. It was a dual-use trap: civilian on paper, military in practice.

Luckily, the US and Denmark realized what was happening and blocked the deal. But don’t think for a second that Beijing gave up. Even after being blocked, they doubled their efforts in 2021. They are playing the long game. They know that if they can establish a foothold in Greenland, they gain control over shipping lanes, massive natural resources, and a strategic military advantage right on America’s doorstep. They are relentless, and they won't stop until they are physically pushed out.
